The government remit
The purpose of Holland Casino is to operate one or more casinos in the Netherlands, in full compliance with government policy, current legislation, licensing requirements and attached conditions.
The Dutch government has decided to place all casino gaming in the Netherlands in the hands of a single operator, based on the belief that doing so will ensure a fair, legal and well controlled range of gaming opportunities for the public.
Holland Casino operates under government control, in line with a policy which incorporates three key elements:
• Consumer (i.e. player) protection
• Prevention and reduction of problem gambling
• Fighting illegal gambling and crime.
Holland Casino’s task is therefore complex. On the one hand, it must remain market-oriented and strive to make a profit. On the other, it must apply due caution in its marketing activities and remain aware of the potential risks of gaming. At the same time, Holland Casino wishes to be – and to be seen as – a socially responsible enterprise.
